Why You Should Already Be Thinking About New Year's Eve

July 1st doesn't just mark the beginning of a new month, it also signifies that we are half way through the year. While it seems like 2010 began mere weeks ago, in just as much time we will be celebrating the start of 2011. In that line of thinking, here are the top 3 reasons you should already be thinking about New Year's Eve:

1) Price. The sooner you make plans and book tickets for whichever club you want to celebrate at, the cheaper it will be. No one wants to be that guy or gal who waits until December 31st to decide and ends up stuck in a line outside all night like those chumps in Times Square. Do your research now and get ready for a night to remember.

2) Commitments. We all have those friends who like to flake out on plans on the last second. "Oh wait, you mean that's today..?" By setting an agenda now, you'll be able to make sure that everyone has it written on their calendar in permanent ink so when the time comes, your whole crew will be there. Just don't forget the 'save the date' cards.

3) Resolution Planning. You said you'd be on a diet last year, and the year before you were supposed to find a boy/girlfriend, but this year is going to be different. Rather than rehashing the same, tired resolutions, use the extra time to come up with something exciting. In 2011 I want to finally go to space camp (only 15 years after seeing those sweet TV commercials) or travel to Africa for a safari. That way, even if you know you'll fail in keeping it once again, at least it will sound cool when you tell your friends.

Simplicity speaks volumes in terms of fashion. This New Years Eve go with a simple ensemble kicked up a notch by some fierce accessories.

New Years Eve Accessories

New Years Eve at an NYC bar is sure to be packed with outrageous outfits on both men and women. Many people use New Years Eve as an excuse to dress completely outlandish.

A dress is the staple garment for women on New Years Eve. Go with a solid color dress and find some great dangling sparkly earrings or an extra long necklace to compliment the dress. Don’t forget about shoes, silver is always a great option on New Years Eve, it gives a festive vibe by mimicking the color of the New Years Eve ball.

A tie can be the perfect accent to any dress shirt for you gentlemen. Your simple outfit consisting of slacks and a dress shirt can be “tied” together with some color. Wear a brightly colored solid or striped tie to add a little pop to your ensemble, helping you to stand out from the average guy at a NYC nightclub on New Years.

There is nothing more exciting than putting together a New Years Eve soiree. Planning early is the key to a successful and memorable New Year's Eve party. Being the host is not always easy but can be quite fun and a little hectic at times.

It helps to have a guest list; you don’t want random people showing up to your event. Sending invitations out early is imperative so that you can have an accurate head count. Make sure your guests are aware of the dress code and that they R.S.V.P to your event. If you do these things, you’re guest will be amazed at how smooth and professional your event is.

Finding the perfect venue is very important especially if not hosting the event at your home. Joonbug has a lot of great New Years Eve venues to choose from. You want to figure out what the theme of your party will be and make sure you shop for party accessories.

Lastly, make sure you have a sufficient amount of food and drinks. Keep your guests well entertained. Having the best music and games is a must. Consider a Deejay should you not have any music.  You want to have a television available to watch the New Years Ball drop!

New Years Eve OutfitLadies and Gentlemen, picking out the perfect outfit for New Years Eve can prove to be a more daunting task than finding the perfect New Years Eve party was.

Gentlemen, your outfit choice should represent the party you will be attending. A blazer is always a safe and stylish bet. If you are partying at a low key bar type venue for New Years wear a pair of slacks with a v-neck t-shirt and a blazer over top. For a more upscale environment, try a suit with or without the tie. For a little pop of color go with a blue or green shirt under your jacket rather than the traditional black or white.

Perfect New Years DressLadies the decision making maybe a little trickier than it was for the boys. The options are endless, but for New Years let’s go all out. Dresses are everywhere right now, so wearing a dress on New Years Eve will not make you over dressed no matter where you will be partying. The most obvious choice is any dress that resembles the Times Square ball, sparkly is perfect for New Years, as it is the most glitzy holiday there is. Stick to silver or black when going with a sparkly option as colors can make this look a little over the top.

New Years Eve DressIf sparkly is not your thing, the little black dress is always a great option. It comes in a million different styles and can always be spiced up by some great accessories and shoes.

No matter where you choose to spend you New Years Eve make sure to channel your inner fashion icon when choosing an outfit that will be sure to make everyone envious.

New Year's Eve Party NYCIf you’re throwing a party on 2010 New Year’s Eve, you might want to consider giving it a theme.  Traditionally, New Year’s Eve parties tend to be cocktail attire, but spice up the party and make it more memorable by adding some variations to the theme.  The perfect New Year’s Eve theme party will be subtle, classy, and easy to pull off.

One theme to try is picking a color.  Black and White is a classic theme that your guests will be able to find an outfit for easily.  Stay away from colors that suit only women, i.e. pink and purple, and try metallic colors like gold and silver.  Choosing a color is a simple way to create a theme for your New Year’s Eve party.

Another great theme for your New Year’s Eve party is New York New Year’s Eve in another decade.  Choose your decade according to how you want your guests to dress.  If you want the occasion to stay classy chose the 20’s and your guests will arrive decked out in flapper dresses and suits.  If you’re looking for a more laid back atmosphere try the 70’s and you’ll have a house full of laid back hippies.

So this year, ditch the traditional cocktail attire and spice up your New Year’s Eve party with a little something special.  Whether it’s a black and white party, a gold themed party, or a dress up as a flapper party, your guests are sure to enjoy the night.

How to Start the New Year Fresh

For many people, the New Year is an opportunity for a fresh beginning.  It’s a time to start over, make resolutions, and forget about the mistakes of the past.  Traditionally, New Year’s resolutions go something like this: lose weight, quit smoking, exercise more, help people, organization.  And most of the time we are quite certain that we will attain our goals… For about one week.  Then, almost inevitably, our hectic schedules and reality take over and we veer off the path once again.

To stay on track on 2010, start with a more detailed, realistic resolution.  Instead of swearing you will lose 20 pounds in January, make it a reasonable 2 pounds per week, and come up with a plan of action.  Instead of joining a New York gym and promising yourself you’ll go everyday for 3 hours, try one hour 3 times a week.  It will be much easier to attain your goals if they’re realistic.  So quell the urge to sign up for every volunteer organization you’ve ever heard of, and focus on one or two that you can dedicate some quality time to.

One of the best ways to start the New Year fresh is to get organized.  Even if it’s not your specific resolution, it’s always good to begin anew in a clean space.  So whether it’s your house, room, locker or even your car, spend a day throwing out everything you don’t need.  Getting rid of the old clutter around you makes it easier to welcome in the new things… like the healthy food and new treadmill.

Another great way to welcome in a fresh 2010 is by quitting something and starting something new.  Think of your worst habit.  Is it the pack a day you smoke?  Is it the pint of ice cream you go through each week?  Is it the guy or girl you know isn’t good for you?  Give them up.  You don’t need them, and your life will be better off without them.  Simply replace them with something more fulfilling.  This could be anything; a new food, a new activity, a new love interest.

Make sure 2010 New Year's Eve isn’t like last time.  Starting off with a clean space will make it easier to follow through on your more reasonable resolutions.  Accomplishing your goals will take time and patience, but if you set your mind to it there are many things you can achieve.

Central Park

Bring in the New Year with the classic celebratory tradition of fireworks at Central Park in New York City. Commemorated by crowds, festivities, and sheer excitement; the New York New Years experience at central park is unmatchable. This year –2010- at central park, feel at the center of it all with music, dance and entertainment. As the clock strikes 12, the fireworks will inaugurate the New Year and mark the start of the New York Road Runners Midnight Run around the park. The view from the park is extraordinarily mind-blowing and if you’re looking for a panoramic spectacle of the fireworks be sure to situate yourself at the Sheep’s Meadow.

Times Square

The breathe-taking Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop is truly one of a kind. Observed by millions on television and billions worldwide, the display is of exclusively paramount magnitude and never fails to impress even the most skeptical of audiences. As the epic 60-second countdown launches the Waterford crystal ball into descent, the illumination of vibrant colors and limitless patterns hypnotize Times Square. The grand event is facilitated by NYPD and icons from across the city, which aids the uniqueness of this experience as an unrivaled way to spend your New Year’s Eve.

South Street Seaport

Whether looking for a family-friendly affair or a romantically flawless venture, the dramatic dazzling views of South St. Seaport –located on the East River next to the Brooklyn Bridge- are whole-heartedly ideal. Comfortably bring in the New Year, catch the fireworks and relax away from the crowds and chaos. Accompanied by holiday festivities and events, restaurants and shops, the South St. Seaport fireworks display is the complete New Year’s Eve experience. We recommend that you walk along the Brooklyn Bridge giving you the opportunity to take full advantage of the astonishing scenery and sights that the city has to offer, all the while capturing the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show.

Prospect Park

Start the New Year off at The 28th Annual Fireworks Show; Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park. Unwind yourself with friends and family in this neighborhood setting while enjoying the occasion of holiday spirit. The Fireworks Show will begin at 12 midnight; with plenty of space for viewing the spectacle of pyrotechnics over the Memorial Arch, this venue is an all age paradigm. The best places for viewing are on Prospect Park West in between Grand Army Plaza and 9th Street. Following the show, there are a sufficient amount of places within walking distance where you can continue or conclude your celebrations.

Although watching New Year's Eve Fireworks sounds like a good idea, you might be looking for real New Year's Eve fun. Then check out Top New Years Eve Parties in New York.

New Years Day in NYC: New York New Years

New York New YearsOne of the greatest moments I anticipate to experience in NYC is New Years Day. Not being a native to the east coast rewards me with the simple pleasures of enjoying the holiday activities like the crazy “after Christmas” sales. Shopping is a vice that most New Yorkers have and is at the top of the list of things to do for out-of-towners. Some of the trendiest attire can be purchased at the lowest prices – start off 2010 right!

Of course, there are the “must-do” activities such as ice skating at Rockefeller Center or checking out one of the many exhibits at the Guggenheim Museum, which is actually open on New Years Day. But if you are someone who is visiting NYC during the busiest time of the year for the city, don’t forget to enjoy the simple things that the city has to offer. Just walking down the street and soaking in the sincere and nostalgic feeling of the holidays and admiring the faint sight of snow flakes off of skyscrapers can be a joy. New Years NYC can be a very romantic city if you are inclined to be in the mood. Taking your significant other on a horse carriage ride through Central Park can definitely be an intimate moment.

If you’re the traditional type, going out to the New Years movies with your loved ones is definitely something that fits the standard. There are always tons of movies during the holidays and what better way to spend time with the ones you love than to watch a new release on the big screen in the big city. If you are a spirited person like me, watching a movie on New Years day should definitely be on the agenda. Movie selection is never really a problem around this time of year as it seems like most quality and heartfelt movies are released during this time, unless you’re into the “huge summer action blockbusters”.

Most of you out there will more than likely be recovering from the epic night before from one of our New York New Years Eve Parties, but if you can salvage yourself to wake up at a decent hour, having brunch with all your friends that you partied the night before with can always be entertaining. You can sit down at the Park Avenue Winter and enjoy a prix fix brunch menu while gossiping with your friends about the drunken events from the night before. If you’re anything like me after a night of drunken debauchery, there is nothing better than to have a nice bowl of Pho at Pho32 to alleviate your hangover. When it comes down to it, your NYC experience on New Years day will all be dependent on what you did on New Years in NYC!

10 Tips to Have the Best New Years Party in New York City

Best New Years Party in New York CityIf you’re throwing a New Years party in NYC, make sure you make the right preparations to have the most memorable party of the season.  Here are a few key points and ideas to make your party in New York City unforgettable.

1. Party Theme - Traditionally, New York New Years Eve parties tend to be either black tie or cocktail attire, but to spice up the party and make it more exciting, add a theme to your party.  The perfect New Year’s Eve theme party will be subtle, classy, and easy to pull off.  Try choosing a color theme like black and white, gold or silver.

2. Party Food – A very important component to any party is what food to serve.  For New Year’s Eve, stay away from dinner, buffets, or anything that requires people to sit down to eat.  A better choice for the best New Year’s party is h’or d’oevres that people can snack on.  Great choices for New Year’s Eve are chocolate covered strawberries, mini quiches, and coconut shrimp.

3. Party Guest List – The perfect party requires the perfect guests.  The ideal New Year’s Eve party will not include children since it is such a late event, but if you believe it is necessary, make sure there is a separate area for kids so that the adults can celebrate the New Year in peace.  Make sure that every guest invited to the party will know at least one other guest.  You want all of your party-goers to feel included.

4. Party Liquors and Alcohol – Of course New York New Years Eve is not complete without Champagne.  But, you want to make sure there are other choices for the hours before midnight.  Although the men may be disappointed, stay away from beer and go for classier mixed drinks.  Make sure to have an assortment of liquors and mixers for the party as well as New Year’s Eve punch and a large supply of ice to last throughout the night.

5. Party Decorations – To make your event space aesthetically pleasing, decorations are a must.  If you’re having a theme, which you should, coordinate the decorations to the theme.  The trick is finding the perfect amount of decorations – too much gold tinsel just may get messy and wind up creating a tacky effect.  The goal when decorating is to stay classy.

6. Party Favors – Basic party favors for New Year’s Eve parties are easy.  All you really need are noise makers and New Year’s Eve hats and tiaras.  But to make the party something special, give each guest a trinket they can take home and remember the party by.  Something related to the theme or homemade by you will make it extra memorable.

7. Party Music – The type of music you play will depend on the kind of party you are throwing.  If you have a separate space for the kids, play hit New Years musics for the children and back round music, either classical or jazz, for the adults.  It is important to get the volume just right.  Nobody likes to have to scream their conversations, but if the music isn’t loud enough the party atmosphere will be ruined.

8. Party Invitations – For this one you’ll need to plan ahead.  While there are always e-vites, the traditional snail mail is a better option for a classier party.  Once again, make sure if there is a theme that the invitations match the theme and also state explicitly the theme so your guests are not confused.  Also make sure to include an RSPV so that you can plan how much alcohol and food to purchase.

9. Party and Entertainment – When people come to a New Year’s Eve party, they expect to have a good time.  While the company, food, and alcohol are large components, you may also need some entertainment.  If it’s a classy party, the TV on mute with the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square is probably enough.  If the kids are there rent a karaoke machine.  No matter what kind of party you’re having, make sure the ball dropping is on the TV for your guests to enjoy.

10. New Year’s Kiss – Everyone wants that special New Year’s Kiss, so make sure the kids are contained by midnight, the ratio of guys to girls is pretty even, and there’s enough alcohol to make everyone feel extra friendly, and get that perfect New Year’s kiss with that special somebody.

Another New Year's Eve Option would be going out for the Top New Year's Eve Parties in New York City.

Happy New Year!!!

New York New Years Eve Ball: The History

Over 100 years ago on Dec. 31, 1907 the most recognized New Years Eve tradition began, for the first time the New Years Eve ball dropped from the top of One Times Square.
New York was not the first city to use a ball dropping as a signal of time change. The history of the time ball was began in Greenwich, England when a ball would drop at 1:00 p.m. daily to inform ship captains of the time. New York adapted this idea into a New York New Years celebration by dropping a 700 pound ball constructed of iron and wood, lit with 100 light bulbs at midnight on Dec. 31st to ring in the New Year.
The New Years Eve ball has been dropped almost every year since 1907. In 1942 and 1943 the ball was not dropped due to war time restrictions in New York. Although the ball did not drop the celebration in Times Square continued.
The celebration that takes place around the New Years Eve ball is just as much of a tradition as the drop. The celebration in Times Square began in 1904 with nearly 200,000 people in attendance. Each year the celebration grows, with the help of television broadcasts it is estimated that one billion people take part in this tradition each year.
Currently, the New Years Eve ball weighs 11,875 pounds and is covered in 2,668 Waterford crystals. The ball is can produce 16 million different colors, making for a beautiful sight. In 2008 the ball became a year round attraction perched atop Times Square.
Though the New Years Eve ball has changed many times throughout the years it remains a staple in any New Years NYC celebration. It is likely that wherever you may be at 11:59:50 p.m. on December 31st you will be crowded around a television watching the New Years Eve ball drop.

New Years Resolutions, always high hopes and low success rates. This year why not choose an achievable resolution and take positive steps toward achieving that goal.

Each year New Yorkers take on lofty resolutions that are too much for any one person to achieve. By January 15th the diet has failed, you haven’t ran in a week, and you just smoked a cigarette. Rather than try and take on all of these resolutions, why not focus on one? All too often someone makes a resolution to “get healthy” well getting healthy may involve several steps, for now just choose one whether it be eating well, working out, or quitting smoking.

There are a few simple tricks to help maintain the process of your resolution. Strength in numbers; if you and a few friends choose to work on the same resolution there will be a constant support system. Always keep a reminder of your resolution with you; a note in your wallet will remind you of what you are working toward each time you reach for cash. Be flexible; if you chose to eat healthy as a resolution, give yourself a cheat day the resolution will not seem so overwhelming.

Remember, these goals won’t be accomplished overnight so be patient.  Get ahead of the game and start planning your resolution before December 31st. This New Years lets resolve to have high hopes and high success rates.

Before you start your New Year resolutions, get relaxed and check out Best New Years Eve Parties NYC or NYC New Years Events.

December in New York City offers some of the greatest holiday activities and sightseeing experiences. Whether you prefer the warm indoors or the crisp December air New York has some great things to do for everyone.
One of the most popular sightseeing traditions in New York is Rockefeller Center. During the holiday season this attraction is stepped up a notch with the tree at Rockefeller Center. The tree is adorned with thousands of sparkling lights and is topped by a giant Swarovski Crystal star. While in Rockefeller Center you can go ice skating below what is most likely the largest Christmas tree you have ever seen.
The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular is a holiday staple in New York City. The show offers the world famous Rockettes and Parade of the Wooden Soldiers which are enough to get anyone in the holiday spirit.
After visiting the tree or seeing a show a little gift shopping could be therapeutic. Many New York department stores fill their windows with lavish holiday decorations giving window shopping a whole new meaning. Even if you skip the shopping these windows are a must see holiday attraction.
New Years Eve in Times Square is quite possibly New York’s most popular December tradition. Every year hundreds of thousands of people come from around the country to watch the New Years Eve NYC ball drop in Times Square. It is an experience that could never be replicated and belongs exclusively to New York City.
While New York has some of the greatest attractions year round December offers a more festive experience for visitors and New York natives alike.

Gershwin HotelWhen planning a trip to a new city like New York City it is always good to have a range of hotels with different prices that you can choose from, especially when it is for NYC New Years Eve. I discovered some great locations that won’t totally break your bank, when I came across a website called HotelsByCity.net.

In the $200 range somewhere around mid $200 my first pick is the Gershwin Hotel; this innovative hotel has a rich history! It is a place more for the creative customer, looking for something a little different. It’s on 7 East 27Th Street which could be a little bit of a trek to Time Square but then at least you won’t have to worry about the crowd around your hotel.

The next in the $200 range but this time a little closer to $300 is The Solita Soho Hotel. This spectacular hotel is a luxury in it self. Each room is custom designed to a different style. Its unique 12 floor Clarion Collection Hotel is well worth the money considering it is on the lower side of prices for Hotels on New Years in NYC.

The Downtown Marriott hotel is definitely my pick for a hotel in the $300 range for New Years Eve. It is an elegant but simple hotel that is worth the price. The view is fantastic and how can you go wrong with a Marriott in NYC! It is in the heart of the Financial District and has easy access to some of NYC greatest sites like the Statue of Liberty.

Hotel Indigo Chelsea New York is a great hotel for around the mid $400’s. Its colorful and creative atmosphere is peaceful and stress free. Think about it, what a great location to be in to bring in the New Years in New York City. The goal of this hotel is to relieve travelers of their stress with their serene atmosphere inside, while the rest of New York moves quickly outside its doors. It’s in a great location in Chelsea, one of the cities most historic areas. Come in to relax and stay to bring in 2010!

When you are done with your hotel search, don't forget to decide where to party on New Years Eve New York.

What to see in NYC if you visit for New Years Eve?

If you’re in New York City for New Years Eve, chances are you’ll find yourself with a few days to spend exploring the streets, parks and attractions of the largest (and best) city in America.  Here are a few guidelines to make the most of your NYC vacation.

For a comprehensive tour of the city, hop on a bus with an open double decker to explore the streets of Manhattan.  Some picture-worthy sights you’ll see on the bus are the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building, and Times Square.  For a different point of view, try a boat tour or helicopter tour around the island.

If you’d rather explore on foot, spend the morning and afternoon exploring Manhattan’s largest park.  Sprawling over one square mile, NYC Central Park offers an array of activities, both romantic and family friendly.  Rent a row boat or take a romantic gondola ride on Central Park’s lake.  Boats leave from the Boathouse, which is located close to the 72nd St entrance to the park on the east side.  After your boat ride, make sure to visit the Belvedere Castle, located mid-park near 79th street, for a panorama of views of the park and skyline.  From there venture into the Ramble and get lost in New York Central Park’s maze of winding footpaths.  For a different Manhattan park experience, head downtown to the High Line, New York City’s newly renovated elevated park and check out the views from up top.

After you have finished exploring Manhattan’s parks, journey to the Upper East Side for Museum Mile that is comprised of 10 museums stretching across 5th Ave. ranging from 82nd street to 104th, Museum Mile is a cultural stretch and home to some of Manhattan’s most celebrated museums.  Although the Metropolitan Museum of Art can easily take an entire day, explore the Met’s highlights from all over the world and move on to the Guggenheim for your fair share of modern art.  Other highlights include The National Design Museum, The Jewish Museum, and the International Center of Photography.

If it’s your first time to New York on New Years Eve, a visit to Rockefeller Center is necessary.  Take pictures of the notoriously large Christmas tree or the bundled up ice skaters skating around The Rink conveniently located on a lower level, allow spectators a bird’s eye view. The Rink is open to the public and offers skate rentals.  Afterward, enjoy an amazing view at Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center’s observation deck.

One crucial thing to do while you’re in New York is see a Broadway show.  If seeing the show is a last minute decision, wait in line at the TKTS discount booth in Times Square for a deal to whatever show you can.  If you’re planning ahead, get tickets online or call the box office.  Some Broadway classics that are a must see are: The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, or Chicago.  For a funny show get tickets to Avenue Q or Shrek the Musical, and if you want to see a show everyone is talking about, check out Wicked or Billy Elliot.

New Years Eve in New York City is an exciting time filled with plenty to do and see.  Spend your New Years in NYC and you are guaranteed a good time. Don’t forget to plan your New Year’s Eve night, tickets get sold out so fast. Visit New Years Eve Events NYC to find out more.

So I have been researching and researching for Hotels to stay at for NYC New Years but as you all know it is the biggest time to be in NYC. It seems to be that all of the hotels in the time square area have been booked for all rooms for quite sometime now. I have always been a fan of Hotels.com for searching for hotels in every area around the world. So, yet again they have proved their right to be a great discount sight. A word of advice if you are an out-of-towner, if you book a flight to NYC with the Hotel you get even more of a discount!
Be prepared though you will be paying a couple hundred for just that night no matter where you stay, as long as it’s in NYC. In my opinion it’s worth it! There’s no better place to be! There are several hotels on Hotels.com that are charging anywhere from $200 to $800 for a room for 2 for just that night. I also suggest Expedia.com, cheaptickets.com, hotwire.com, or Travelocity.com. Personally I like Hotels.com best but for an occasion like this you are always safer searching around as much as you can. Though don’t search too long I guarantee all hotels will be booked by Thanksgiving. Welcome to NYC, the greatest city in the world!
When you are done with the hotel search, don’t for get to check out Crazy New Years Eve Parties in New York.
